Dr Mamta Joshi- A Myriad Multitalented Music Genius and Peerless Performer of World Acclaim.Chronicles of a Superb Soulful Sufiana and Folk Musical stardom.

Singing , eulogizing and reveling in the pristine glory the Punjabi folk music and Sufiana kalaams during her adolescent phase of life, prodigious Mamta stamped her versatility as a multitalented vocalist and Kathak danseuse in a very short span. Mamta was exposed to the rudiments of classical music at the tender age of 6 by her maternal grandfather S. Balwant Singh Sehgal (Nanaguru) and later to Ghazal, Sufiana and lighter genres by her elder brother Gulshan Tandon. But her blessed tutelage under Pandit Shanker Mishra and Dr Arun Mishra of Indore gharana not only awakened and transformed her dormant abilities into fruitful artistic creations but also embellished her aesthetic potential through the rigorous riyaaz which invariably empowers her to illuminate the horizons of melody of compositions of all vocal musical genres with consummate ease. She attained proficiency in Khyal , Tappa and Thumri gayan in classical and literary poetry Ghazal, Sufiana and cultivated her musical traits to embellish Western fusion with Indian Classical music.
As ordained, the vivacious and versatile Mamta kept achieving excellence in the realm of folk, classical and Sufiana music in academics and performances. She was rightly hailed as a golden girl at the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, winning six gold and silver medals each in various national music competitions for her university. She also won the HRD ministry (Govt. of India)”s prestigious scholarship.
A Legend In The Making:
Before she secured her PhD in Indian classical vocal music, she had a gold medal in MA (Music) and a silver medal in MA (Kathak dance) to her credit. As extolled , blessed and professed by her mentors , the Wadali brothers duo of Sufi maestros, Padamshri Ustad Puran Chand and Ustad Pyare Lal , the indomitable Mamta Joshi emerged as a leading female Sufi singer of prominence gradually announcing her eminently deserved arrival on the Word music scene and that too with invincibility.
Memorable International Concerts:
Mamta Joshi became the first Indian female Sufi singer to give solo performance of Sufiana gayki at the most prestigious international venue , the India Nehru Centre, London in June 2006. She repeated her tradition of excellence to perform at London”s Queen Elizabeth Hall later, a dream venue of any artist.
Earlier, as student artiste she toured UK under Heritage cultural exchange programme giving live performances in Glasgow, Wales, Chester, Cardiff, and Ludlow Castle in 2003 . Through an entrancing spell of her, self composed ornate poetry of legendary Shiv Kumar at a grand concert organized by Shiv Kumar Batalvi Trust at London in September of 2008. Mamta sang straight to the hearts of Punjabi poetry lovers in UK. She launched her first video CD “Haq Bahu” amidst adulations from intrusive fans at her live concert.
Her fan following grew by leaps and bounds as Mamta performed to an overwhelming large crowd at Bell Art Centre Surry ( Canada) on 10-10-10 which was followed by five more mega shows including the Edmonton university. The year 2013 became memorable for Mamta Joshi and music lovers of USA where during her eight fully sold shows she doled out songs in Garhwali, Bengali and Hindi besides Punjabi much to the delight of non Punjabi audience winning a lofty applause. She was the first Punjabi female performer in Nehru Centre London and did a fusion performance with British artists.
Dr Mamta Joshi is all set to perform in UK, USA, Canada and Australia in 2015.
